 One of the biggest reasons to remove your dock in the winter has to do with ice. Ice damage to docks can be significant, and if you want to prolong the lifespan of your dock and its hardware, it’s best to keep it well out of the ice’s path.

Ways to Prevent Ice Damage to Your Dock

There are two basic ways to prevent your dock from ice damage. One is to use a de-icer or bubbler to prevent ice from forming around your dock and the other is to remove your dock from the lake.

Before installing a bubbler, it’s important to check with your local authorities to see if there are any specific rules related to the use of bubblers. Often clear signage is required to notify ice skaters or others walking on the lake that a bubbler is in use.

Alternatively, you should consider storing your dock for the winter. Keeping your dock clean and dry in the winter will minimize rust, prevent ice damage and ensure its longevity.
